I saw the article about your eucalyptus trees on the internet. I'm so sorry you are having to go through all bother. It seems you have done everything possible to save the trees and probably at some expense. Some years back I was painting at a LAUSD school site during the spring break period. My partner and I heard a terrific noise and the building shook. We went outside and discovered that a very large branch from a eucalyptus had fallen broken the top of a chain link fence. This limb was as big around as a tree. The fallen limb even made a large indentation in the asphalt!! A school district tree surgeon was out within an hour. When I asked him how this could have happened he replied that the tree did not appear diseased or suffering from insect infestation. He said that eucalyptus trees are prone to "deadfall". He also said that eucalyptus trees can be deadly.

Hi Ms. Tomlin, Just saw the piece on the news about your tree situation and thought immediately of the gorgeous 60 foot tree that fell in our yard. It fell for no reason - just keeled over one night. Fortunately it only took out the power line - had it fallen in any other direction but exactly where it did, it would have crushed our cars, the neighbors house, or taken out the front fence and landed on the street. It would have killed anyone in it's path. We were lucky, even though we could barely get out our front door! Your neighbor should be thankful you're taking action! -Deeder McDaniel

Ok, since I was 20 people would stop me and say "has anyone ever told you that you look just like Lily Tomlin". Ok, everyone started calling me Lily. Ironically, I was a telephone operator. Anyway, my Dad was a real stinker (musician) and traveled alot. Get my drift? Just curious, were you close with your Dad? I love your humor and have followed you since your Laugh In days (oh yes, I'm all of 57) so I wanted to say thankyou for laughter thru out these years.

Lily, You're hilarious. IMHO, the greatest living female humorist. Wanted to let you know that my daughter was born the night of a broadcast of your documentary, September 30, 1987. I was watching it when my wife went into labor. I was hoping her labor pains were false, since I was enjoying the show so much. Anyway, "Holly" is now a beautiful 20-year-old and attends Penn State. We almost named her "Lily," but decided on a different "plant" name. Love ya, Pete

Lily, Sorry to keep posting on here, but wanted to let you know the latest from Dallas, Texas about Jenny the Elephant, per a news break story on Channel 8, WFAA TV. Jenny to stay in Dallas, zoo plans new elephant santuary 11:02 AM CDT on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 WFAA-TV A Dallas zoo official says Jenny the elephant will remain at the Dallas Zoo. There had been debate over whether to send her to Mexico or sanctuary in Tennessee. "We believe we have found a solution that benefits Jenny as well as the Dallas community," said Gregg Hudson, executive director of the Dallas Zoo and The Dallas Aquarium at Fair Park. "This plan serves Jenny's best interests and continues to provide children and adults in Dallas with the opportunity to experience the majesty of elephants." The City of Dallas and the Dallas Zoological Society will speed up construction of a new African Savanna, which was already in the planning stages since early 2006. The new elephant habitat will be at least fifteen times larger than the Dallas Zoo's current elephant exhibit. In addition, several potential elephant companions are being identified for the future habitat. Ten million dollars from the 2006 bond funding has been earmarked for the project.

"We really care about you!" "Who cares about you?", he mused. It's been awhile since we've seen Ernestine. An American comic named Lily Tomlin went off looking for intelligent signs in other parts of the occupied universe. I'll be curious to hear what she found. If Ernestine were back these days, she'd be making tapes. Lots of empty desks. How many empty desks will it take? "If then, then if, if then. Press 5. Press 2. Press 2 again. Keep pressing 2. Goodbye. I really care about you too." It would be amusing, entertaining to see how complicated she could get this. As a matter of fact, I think she would start having fun with this! Easier said than done. An American actor named Michael Douglas was talking about a writer who hit a tree and died, in a Porsche. Apparently, some sort of occupational hazard around there. And she was a real trooper. And she was gone. And she did anything they asked. And she was gone. He might as well have stepped in front of a camera and said, "we'd rather work with the more recently deceased. They're SO much easier to work with." Catch-22. My favorite film. The insanity of warfare. And that great scene with Orson Welles. "Just take him out and shoot him. I can't? Why not?" They were interviewing an American actress and singer named Bette Midler, and the television was just "on". And she "does whatever the director says". And that little word she used, she had never given that question any thought, at least during an interview, "Um". "There's a little word for what I've got. Tenacity is far to refined, and hutzpah is far, far to polite. Here's a little tune you can whistle in church!" Actually, that's something she can scream at the top of her lungs. And it ain't antlers! My favorite sign, it's actually called a billboard is in the south. Just off of I-10 on my to Atlanta from Tampa. All the waiters started singing. This sign kept me amused, for a lack of a better word, for 75 sometimes 80 miles. "Sheffield's. All you can eat catfish house. Where Jesus is Lord." THIS is southern style. "Oh, but ain't it the truth though." And it all but drips from the trees. I know what that means. Do you? Someone please call Lily. Wish her a happy birthday for me and tell her to READ HER WEBSITE. RIGHT NOW! I need an address where to send the application. Thank you.

"Maybe they don't know they're watching cartoons?" How would you know if you didn't ask? Here, take this clipboard. Hopefully, people will laugh while they answer these questions. You only have to ask them two. "Excuse me sir. Sir! We're you aware you're watching cartoons and not just animated features, sitcoms and full length films? You're laughing. You've answered my second question. I take it you're not offended by that question. No. OK, thank you. " I think you'll find people aren't offended by that question anymore, but they still know they're watching cartoons. What does it say when the world's most famous commedienne, a woman by the name of Lucille Ball called the Queen of Comedy, steps in front of a camera and says: "Someday, someone will come along and he'll know exactly what to do". It's on tape. Should be. I was ironing at the time. Not something I'm good at or proud of, just something I thought I'd do more when I retired. Ir had been announced earlier that she and Mr. Mooney would be returning to a television series, in a hardware store. I came to a conclusion before they finished the sentence, but I would tune in for old times' sake. I didn't have a chance to turn on the television before they cancelled the series. The television was just "on" snd I was out of the room when they asked her the question, which undoudtedly had something to do with the fact that her television series had just been cancelled. She was completely convinced, COMPLETELY convinced this was going to happen, and she was so . concing too. What gives us the cause to believe? And shw was so . convincing too. Join me now in my analysis of this. Now, I know she was married to a producer when she said ths. Well dressed too. I imagine it was some sort of award cewremony. Years ago, when asked "to what she attributed her great success?", the Queen of Comedy (as she was then called) replied swinging her head from side to side and without any hesitation at all, she said: "Oh, I had the greatest wrtiters!" Plural. And in the only written interview I ever saw she talked about "the power of the living room". But she said "soeday, someone will come along and HE'LL know exactly what to do". Now, I don't think she was talking about a director, although it could be argued she was talking about one of the many different kinds of producers. Except, I've never heard of a creative producer. I don't think a producer CAN be creative. Quite honestly, I don't know what an executive producer does. If someone introduced themselves to me as an exevutive producer, I don't know what I'd say. I'd probably.bow. I keep getting the same thing. "Have you seen Lucille, she was here just a minute ago?" If someone were to write an anonymous mispelled letter, not "To Whom it May Concern" but "Deer Hollywood.", like the one I"ll be sending to you, and have it published, they'd have to, who would they send this to? Would this be cause be concern or news? I know the answers to some of these questions, I feel compelled to ask them nonetheless. Give it some thought!

"AMERICA HAS BEEN DECEIVED!!" An American comic named Lily Tomlin could do this far better than I could. Give her a bullhorn and a very thick pair of glasses and we'll watch as she organizes the march on Washington D.C. as only Lily Tomlin can. She hears the voice of one of her favorite characters, America's favorite little boy, and meets Yeardley Smith in a grocery store. The defining moment in a film critic's life. "Everyone's always shocked when they meet me. They think I'm a man." "This march, which has filled Washington D.C., this historical moment in time will send a very loud and powerful message! This is the beginning of a brand new day! We will not lie down for this! Our elected officials will hear us! Our voices will be heard and our message will be clear!! WE KNOW NOW WE ARE WATCHING CARTOONS!!" The crowd - - ROARS!!! I need an address were I can send Lily a letter. It's not called "To Whom it May Concern". It's a little more specific. It's called "Deer Hollywood." "Please bring our corpuscles back", he thumped his head.

Lily, Here is a news article about Jenny the Elephant. Thought you might want to see/read it, from the "Concerned Citizens of Jenny Yahoo Group": Mexican group urges Dallas to keep Jenny the elephant in the U.S. 06:40 PM CDT on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 By RACHEL SLADE / The Dallas Morning News Representatives from a Mexican animal welfare group joined the debate on the future of Jenny the elephant at City Hall today, arguing for the aging star of the Dallas Zoo to stay in the United States. Ineffective animal welfare laws and a lack of law enforcement make Mexico a dangerous place for animals, said officials of Gente por la Defensa Animal (People for the Defense of Animals), a non-profit organization based in Mexico City. To be taken care of at The Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald, Tenn., is what Jenny “deserves,” they said. “Mexico is 80 years behind in our welfare laws and standards compared to your country,” said organization President Monica Pineda. Vice President Maricarmen Garcia visited Africam Safari Park last week. She said the space intended for Jenny is a round plot of land from vehicles by a dry moat. Cars, she said, could drive all the way around the area. “She will be subjected to constant traffic, constant noise. Jenny will be exposed all the time,” Ms. Garcia said. “What she needs is to go to a place where she can heal.” --- On Wed, 8/13/08, Tanja Sewell-Pattist wrote From the Dallas News website

Lily-I was so impressed when I learned you spoke up for Jenny. As a concerned animal lover, I am well aware of the lonliness elephants suffer when alone. Thank you for helping with Dallas' latest delima, Jenny The Elephant. Of course, it takes someone as famous as you and many experts, to get the city council to "force" Jenny's keeper in to putting her some place in the US that might just be able to help the poor little girl have a better and happier life. Dear Lily, Hi! My name is Megan Streng and I work for the West Michigan Film Office/Tourist Association in Grand Rapids. Our core mission is to bring people into the west side of the state of Michigan because we feel that it is a fantastic destination. Also, in these times, we know that tourism dollars are a vital part of our economy. With Michigan’s new film incentives, we are aware of the growing interest in filming in Michigan and we couldn’t be happier about it. I am trying to put together a “film-friendly guide” to West Michigan, which will inform all of our communities on how to get organized and what to do when a production company is not only interested in filming in our area, but actually sets up camp here. I feel this will be an important resource for our communities as we try to draw as many films here as possible. It may be just what we need to improve some of these economic times. The reason I am contacting you is because I am a HUGE fan, and I know that you believe in Michigan. I am looking for creative ways to get this book funded and wondered if you would be interested in underwriting the Film Friendly Guide to On-Location Filming in Your Community. If not, I am interested in any ideas that you may have. Thank you for your time, sincerely, Megan Streng West Michigan Film Office/Tourist Association Communications & Membership Director 741 Kenmoor Ave. Suite E Grand Rapids, MI 49546 PH. 616.245.2217 x.106 FX. 616.954.3924 We Know West Michigan!

Ms Tomlin, you've always brought joy and a smile. But once, you amazed me! I was a child living a racially changing South (of course, the matamorphisis is ongoing) and any time people of color were on television, my siblings and I watched. On evening, I watched Mr Bill Cosby's Comedy Hour on CBS (if memory serves) where you were a guest. You and Mr. Cosby performed a skit as a couple and your performance was incredible. I know at the time, there was probably some sort of backlash because intolerances of the day but it is still in my memory (although fading as I near 50!) and brings a smile. Everything you have done in your professional life has been worthwhile. (Even popping the wheelchair wheelie in "All Of Me" still makes me lose it!) I am happy that I, too, have been able to enjoy the ride! All the world to you and Jane.

Took my 18 year old to see you in Spokane last night. We both really enjoyed you. As a high school counselor, I learned how to deal with a rough crowd. Thanks

I seen you in Boston in 1987 the night the guy yelled out "Lay off the Kennedys". It wasn't me. I never forgot your adlib, "I wish someone had told me before I started out how boringly predictable life becomes when you have everything." It sounded like something a N.Y. bag lady would say. Best Wishes

To the incomparable Ms. Lily Tomlin, Thank you so much for coming to Spokane. Thanks to a generous friend, I was seated in the front row and had the chance to realize a dream I've had since the 70s: seeing you perform live. Your material is wonderfully updated and fresh: hats off to Jane Wagner. Thanks to you both for putting yourselves out there. A special thanks for bringing Madame Lupe to the show. Your devoted fan since the days of Laugh-In, Marie

Dearest Lily, It has been two years since I last saw you perform on stage, and I desperately wish I could see you at some point during your 2008-2009 tour. The closest show is in Pittsburgh, and alas, I'm about 5 hours away. However, it was extremely refreshing to see you in The Walker. I've missed your silver screen presence. I'm also anxiously awaiting 12 Miles of Bad Road. I'm seriously yearning for more of your work, and would obviously love to see you perform live again. I recently graduated from college and am looking for a job. I'm sure you have a personal assistant (if not multiple assistants), but if you ever need another hand, please let me know. I'd be honoured to work with you, for you. Thank you for a lifetime of inspiration! You mean the world to me and you've been a bright, beautiful light of laughter for me since I was a wee one. My best to you and Jane! Love always, Amanda

My wife and I are big fans, always have been. So, I am delighted to see you will be coming back to the Bay Area twice in the next year, both Santa Rosa next Spring and Sacramento in September. If you'll allow me to reminisce, I can recall when I was in the 8th grade and watching Laugh In. (I won't tell you how many years ago that was, but you know.) What break-out television that was! You were hysterical at the switchboard, and I recall talking with all my friends about the show and especially you and Goldie Hawn. But I loved you in that part! It was so original and funny. We are loyal West Wing watchers here, too, and so we were delighted to see you had occupied the Oval Office (well, at least right next to it). You brought a lot of depth to that role, too. I can't think of many who can combine both a dramatic side and comedic talent the way you do. So, Lily, thanks for being there and entertaining us all these years. You're a delight and a true talent. It's no wonder your fans care so much for you!

You looked like it was urgent to know where to stay in Hanford(why?), so I have thought about it. As a refugee from severe crime on the coast, I found the Tulare County Sheriff's Office to be the best. They are not stereotype rednecks, and not in-your-face. You call before you get here and ask if there is a substation near Hanford. 559-562-2511, EVENINGS, Don't call Hanford Police, pretend you didn't think about that. (I don't know them). Say what was scary the first time and they will figure out what to do, NOT you. You figured out the safest town, and the most privacy already. I know you are smart enough to use all rooms around you. YOu can look up Bed and Breakfasts, but unless you're into endless conversations about family, religion, outdoor parties and beer, I suggest a hotel, in Hanford, really. That goes for living here, too. It's hard to fit in, but I get a lot of work done, and the stress is 20%, vs. 80% on the coast; alas, no great medical, so I can't suggest a move. I've gone against my policy of one e-mail, and PLEASE don't tell your friends, esp. here, about my suggestion about the sheriff's office; but they've been my non-redneck friends for two years. NOT HOLT, definately NOT HOLT. (can't I throw in ONE creepy joke?)

Dear Mr. Tomlin: I met you many, many years ago after one of your performances in the Chicago area. As I was (and still am) an avid fan, my cousing Lily (Yep! that's her real name) took me to see one of your performances and then backstage to get your autograph. I was completely awestruck. That was when I was in high school and I was always the class clown, doing impressions of you doing Edith Ann (My favorite) and Ernestine, etc. for my then English teacher and fellow classmates. They loved it. Flash forward to years later where I actually entered the entertainment industry mainly as a dancer in opera, ballet and musical theater. Amazingly, I still get comments as recently as a few days ago regarding the striking physical resemblance to you, and great sense of wit and humor. Unfortunately, since January, I have had to rely upon one of the most utterly boring part-time jobs ever to support my income.(I also work part time as a dance instructor, which I thoroughly enjoy). I guess one could say I am at my wits end in this job that is severley cramping my style. Ala Vicki Lawrence to Carol Burnett, I am writing to you with the hopes that you can somehow assist me in my performing career. Can I send a resume and photo somewhere? Thanks. I am remain one of your faithful fans.

I was worried you might not show up and without you, there'd be little point in me being here. I worry a lot. I worry that some of you are here because friends told you about the site. Once and for all they're going to prove to you that I'm funny." - Lily Tomlin: The Official Lily Tomlin Website A Friendship Develops Dear Lily, My thoughts and prayers go out to you. I was saddened to hear of the passing of Dottie Rambo. She wrote a song "One More Valley." It seems like you have "one more valley, one more trail, and one more tear." I just learn today of the passing of legendary TV comedian Dick Martin. The world needs some good news. I would like to know how your long-lasting friendship developed with Dottie Rambo. I am so thankful that you had an opportunity to hear her wonderful inspirational music. The name Dottie Rambo might not be familiar to many of the readers, but she was praised for creating songs that crossed racial, musical and religious barriers. She was a prolific writer and singer whose hits include: We Shall Behold Him and He Looked Beyond My Faults (and Saw My Need.) I'm simple lost for words. (I'm trying to overcome the fear of writing.) My writing is a Laugh-in. So why worry? Dottie was never worried about compromising her artistic freedom and integrity by bridging the gap. "I'll Glory in the Cross" is one of my all-time favorite song of praise. You made a surprise appearance with Dottie on the Midnight Jamboree. I look around me and see prophecies fulfilling everywhere. At the midnight cry, we will be going home. Get ready for Jesus Christ to make a special appearance around the world.

Hey Lilly, I am the granddaughter of Maurice Ford Anderson from Paducah Ky. I knew your mother, Aunt Lil, when I was growing up. She came to several family reunions back in the day. You have been our famous relative. We called my great grandmother Nu Nu. I don't know exactly how we are related, but you might recognize some of these names. Anyway, I live in Portland, Oregon now (Thank God I'm out of the south), and I just found out you will be performing June 7. I am going to bring my 10 year old daughter to see you. She is our comedian. I don't know if it is possible, but I would love to introduce the two of you and say hi myself. Even if we can't meet it will be a thrill to see you live. Have fun on your tour, we'll see you soon. Melissa Massey

Ms. Tomlin, I have been a fan of yours for awhile, especially after "I heart Huckabees" and "The West Wing". I am a sociology major at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. I am focusing my studies on inequality. I was particularly struck by a sketch you were in on SNL during the first season where you played a construction worker teaching a class of women to cat call. I was wondering if you could perhaps tell me where I could get a hold of that particular clip, for I feel it would illustrate a lot of points I have been attempting to make in courses. Thank you for your time and all the laughs. Lindsay York

What good fortune for Turlock last night to have Lily perform, thank you it was a great show. As my companions pulled me towards the backstage to meet you all I could say was "Give her a break. She just put on an amazing performance for an hour and a half and if I was you all I would want is to take off my make-up and bra and relax!" Instead you graciously talked with each one of us and amazingly remembered our names. You are more than an entertainer, you are an incredible ambassador for humanity! Thank you Lily, it was an entertaining evening and meeting you was certainly an exciting moment in my life.

Lily: I am an author. I've written a book about being married and divorced ELEVEN (11) times; true story. I want to write a stage play but have no idea where to begin. Is there any way that I can purchase the script for "The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe?" I've seen the CD's but I want the actual script if possible. It was a great show and if I need a template to write mine, I can't think of any better than yours. A woman on the stage talking about the idiots she married. The stories will crack you up. Thank you. Bonnie Ashley

Ms. Tomlin, I have desperately searched for a way to contact you (either through your agents or otherwise) but alas this is my last and perhaps only hope. Once upon a time (way back in 1985) my partner was the advertising exec. for your Broadway production of "The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe" and then again for the tour in the late 80's. To make a long story short, Neil is turning 50 later this month and I was hoping to ask a small favor of you. If anyone one on your staff actually reads these messages, I would be so very grateful if you could reply so that I may make a formal request. Sincerely & humbly yours, John K.
